We all know how some people simply love sharing their opinions on everything – no matter if its welcome or not. A really good example of this are the following long hair comments: Anyone with long hair has encountered these wayyyy to often.
Enjoy my little rant, and keep in mind, its all in good humour!
1. “You have long hair.”

This is probably the most common of the long hair comments. You’d be surprised how many people feel the strong need to tell us this.
Come on! We obviously know we have long hair. Someone stating this very obvious fact just leaves us kind of waiting for their point because, honestly, what are we going to reply to that?
Do they want some kind of reward for finding that out all by themselves? It’s just really confusing.
2. “How do you go to the bathroom with all that hair?”
Seriously, what kind of question is that even? Are you really saying that someone who has their hair grown that long has not figured out how to not let it hang everywhere?
Counter question: How do you go to the bathroom if you’re wearing a coat? Or a long scarf? Or simply anything you don’t want hanging? Just think about it for a moment and I’m sure you’ll figure out how it could work.

3. “When will you cut your hair?”
Why would you assume that I want to cut it? You just told me I have long hair. And, obviously, the best way to get there is to not cut it.

It’s a weird kind of logic to assume that hair has to be cut at some point. It actually doesn’t. But, if you’ll answer “never” to this question, you’ll definitely get to hear why that’s not okay!

4. “How long does it take to wash it?”

Okay, honestly, this question is understandable. For someone who has not had hair this long, it must be pretty unimaginable how you take care of it.
But for us, long-haired people, having to answer this question again and again, is just super tiring. We wash it. Then we let it dry. Sometimes we do more, sometimes we don’t. That’s it.
There are really much more interesting topics to discuss.
5. “My hair could never grow that long.”
This statement is as common as it is (mostly) untrue. The most common reason why your hair won’t grow is very rarely that it “just can’t”. It’s rather that you keep getting these short haircuts.
(Unsurprisingly, this comment comes most often from the same people who just asked us when we’ll cut out hair.)
6. “Aren’t you a little old for long hair?”
Excuse me? Who makes these rules? How old or young do you have to for a certain hair length? When is the magic age where you have to cut your hair? 25? 30?
Also, did you just call me old? How rude!

7. “Don’t you get bored of wearing the same hairstyle all the time?”

Well, this is another long hair comment I simply don’t get. Someone here seems to confuse a haircut with a hairstyle.
With my long hair, I can make so many different hairstyles! I can let it loose, braid it, put it up. I can straighten it, I can curl it. What can you do with short hair?
It seems to me like the one who’s wearing the same hairstyle all the time is not me…

8. “You should donate your hair!”

Unfortunately, this comment often comes together with a claim that having long hair is selfish. Sorry, but this simply doesn’t make any sense.
How exactly is my long hair taking away from anyone? Is your hair growing less because mine is long? Are you selfish because you take your salary home every month, shouldn’t you donate it to someone who doesn’t have a salary?
Obviously, lots of people with long hair are growing it to donate or have donated it before. And that’s amazing and commendable. But it’s their choice! Believe us, we know of the possibility and if we ever decide to cut our hair, we’ll definitely keep that in mind.
Still, telling someone which parts of their body they should and shouldn’t donate, is just really, really invasive. If people were really so concerned about things having to be donated, they would go ahead and make their own donations.
9. “Your hair is too (insert critical statement here)”

“Your hair is too thick, thin, long, damaged, curly, straight…” Just imagine basically all kinds of hair shaming wrapped into one comment.
Like any comments about other people’s appearance, this is just rude. I am not telling them what I think about their style of clothing or their hairstyle for that matter. Why do they think it is okay to tell me what they don’t like about my hair? And why should I care?
Or worse, maybe I KNOW about it, and it’s a big insecurity of mine. How would these kinds of comments help? I don’t get it.
I think, the best rule of thumb for these kinds of things is: Just don’t make negative comments about other people’s appearance. No matter how right you think you are. It’s just rude.
Do any of these resonate with you?
Then share this with someone and let other people know how these comments make us feel! Or do you have other long hair comments you really don’t want to hear anymore? Let us know in the comments down below!
