The best introvert songs to unite us introverts (but separately!)
When looking at popular songs it can sometimes seem as everyone is celebrating that extrovert lifestyle. Songs about parties, dancing in crowds, and, of course, all those love songs.
But as an introvert, it can be nice to sometimes listen to lyrics that talk about OUR experiences! Songs that are honest about feeling really alone and overwhelmed at a crowded house party. Or songs talking about alone time being the perfect way to decompress.
Does that sound like you? Then I have the perfect playlist for you!
13 introvert songs to make you feel understood and inspire confidence in taking that alone time you need!
1. “Too precious” – Em Beihold
If you haven’t heard of Em Beihold, you need to change that quickly. She’s the queen of writing relatable and honest lyrics and all of her songs are super catchy.
The whole song is about setting some boundaries as an introvert, and unapologetically taking the space to be who she is: someone who prefers staying at home instead of partying and being wild.
Just check out these lyrics:
“I’ve got my own idea of fun Don’t need to get drunk at the club And start kissing strangers Don’t like the danger I like to stay at home at night You think it’s lame, but I’m alright Don’t need your two cents On my life events”
“Too precious”, Em Beihold
“Too precious”, first verse
2. “Me, Myself & I” – G-Eazy, Bebe Rexha
This whole song is a celebration of being with yourself and being good with that. And it’s a bop!
Favorite line from this song:
“And as far as I can see I just need privacy“
“Me, myself & i” – G-Eazy, bebe Rexha
3. “It’s my party” – Lesley Gore
This song was a Social media hit a while ago – and with good reason. While the lyrics are about some unrequited love, the chorus totally hits a nerve.
“It’s my party and I cry if I want to”
“It’s my party” – Lesley Gore
Every sensitive person ever wishes they could live their feelings this unapologetically!
4. “Here” – Alessia Cara
Alessia Cara wrote the introvert song every introvert wants to sing into their extrovert friends’ faces. If you have the time, this is also one of the music videos to check out. You’ll see Alessia hating being at a house party, ditching small talk and craving some much needed alone time. RELATABLE!
“Truly, I ain’t got no business here But since my friends are here, I just came to kick it But really I would rather be at home all by myself not in this room”
“Here” – Alessia Cara
5. “Solitude is bliss” – Tame Impala
With this song, the title is exactly what you get. It describes how being alone can truly be a happy place.
“Space around me where my soul can breathe I’ve got body that my mind can leave Nothing else matters, I don’t care what I miss Company’s okay Solitude is bliss”
“Solitude is bliss” – Tame Impala
6. “human” – Cristina Perri
Obviously you can interpret this song to be about personal relationships in general. About how things can get too much and then we fall apart.
But, as introverts tend to internalise their struggles until they break down, alone, at home, it’s especially relatable to us.
I’m only human I’m only human Just a little human I can take so much ‘Til I’ve had enough
“human” – Christina Perri
7. “going out” – Role Model
Now, this next song comes with a little bit of a disclaimer. Introversion doesn’t mean shyness, social anxiety or depression necessarily. However, those things can very well all be there at the same time.
This song is beautifully honest in talking about an experience that most introverts can relate to very well: wanting to stay home while at the same time wishing your friends would invite you more often. You don’t want to go, but you want to know they want you there and like you. Even if you don’t join. An “introvert with extroverted expectations”, as Carla sings.
The worst stereotype ever? That introverts don’t know how to have fun. They do, but usually there is no one around to see when they’re the happiest.
This song is a celebration of being there for yourself – and enjoying it!
“I like my own company Company, I don’t need it I’m not always cold I’m just good on my own, so good on my own”
“Good thing” Zedd, Kehlani
10. “instagram” – DEAN
Okay, sometimes we love being alone and we celebrate it. And then there are those evenings where we get trapped in doom scrolling. This K-pop song talks about this experience, when you know you’re wasting your time but somehow can’t stop.
“wasting so much time 그렇게 시간 낭비를 하네
in that Instagram 저 Instagram 속에서”
“instagram” – Dean
11. “Cool Kids” – Echosmith
There is nothing wrong with being an introvert. And still, if we’re being really honest, sometimes we just want to be like those social butterflies who everyone seems to know and love.
Because being alone a lot sometimes can feel like you’re the odd one out.
You’re not! Still, if you feel like this, sing your heart out to this song!
“I wish that I could be like the cool kids ‘Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in I wish that I could be like the cool kids Like the cool kids”
“Cool Kids” – Echosmith
12. “Soul to Squeeze” – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Even the good old Red Hot Chili Peppers have a perfect introvert song in their portfolio. Don’t we all know this moment where we just have to get away from it all to “find ourselves again” before we can come back to being a good friend, partner, or simply person?
“Where I go, I just don’t know I got to, gotta, gotta take it slow When I find my peace of mind I’m gonna give ya some of my good time”
“Soul to squeeze” – red hot chili peppers
13. “Everybody but me” – Lykke Li
This song is the perfect description of the sensory experience of being an introvert at a party. Feeling like everything’s uncomfortable, hoping no one notices you, wondering what to do.
“And everybody’s dancing I don’t want to And everybody’s toying I don’t want to And everybody’s laughing I don’t want to Everybody but me”
“Everybody but me” – Lykke Li
