Homemade beauty tips for lips 1: Lucky Lemon

Glass of water with lemon in it, Homemade beauty tips for lips 1Lemons – pure beauty wonders. If you are into homemade beauty remedies you have probably used them for something by now, maybe for your hair, maybe for your nails… And yes, now it’s time to put some drops of that sunny sour juice on your lips!

What does it do?

Because of the fruit acid in it lemon juice can be used as an exfoliant. It removes dead skin cells and will leave your lips super tender.

How do I use it?

Cut a lemon in half and gently sweep the pulp over your lips, preferably before going to bed so it can soak in overnight. Easy as that! Alternatively, squeeze the juice out and dab it on your lips.

Do not use this if your lips are already chapped. First of all, it’s gonna burn when the acid gets into your wounds, second of all your skin needs to heal, so you don’t want to peel off the newly built skin.

Homemade beauty tips for lips 2: Oily Ointment

Oil step of the LOC methodAlways to be found in my list of beauty ingredients: oil. My personal preference is olive oil, but any other natural oil like coconut oil, avocado oil*, macadamia oil*… will work. If you feel like playing, try several and just stick with your favorite!

What does it do?

Olive oil can help to moisturize your skin and also contains antioxidants like Vitamin E. This helps in repairing damaged skin, so your lips will be smoother and look overall healthier.

How do I use it?

Just massage a small amount of your oil of choice on your lips. Ideally, you do this when they are still a little damp from washing. It will give your lips a shiny look. So if you have a small container to carry it around, you could even do this regularly throughout the day until your lips feel better. Talk about having a truly beneficial lip gloss!

If you have a tendency for oily skin, breakouts or acne be careful when applying the oil to make sure it goes on your lips only. Especially avoid dripping any on your chin.

Homemade beauty tips for lips 3: Healing Honey

Sweet honey. I always have it around. Either for tea, for a hair rinse or (of course) for my lips. Especially in winter, it has saved my lips many many times.

jar with honey, Homemade beauty tips for lips 2What does it do?

For centuries honey has been known to have healing properties. It accelerates the healing of wounds and its anti-inflammatory qualities reduce swellings and pain.

How do I use it?

Again apply a little amount of it on your lips. No need to massage it in, it will soak in by itself. Make sure to do it over a sink, because you will not want sticky spots all over the floor. Also do not put too much, it will start dripping off your lips…

This stuff is tasty! But licking it off your lips will make everything worse. The saliva evaporates and your lips get even drier. We don’t want that. So best apply it before going to bed. This way you will have to resist the temptation for a much shorter amount of time.

Homemade beauty tips for lips 4: Beneficial Butter

A pile of cocoa butter: Needed for the homemade beauty tips for lips

Have you ever used cocoa butter* for beauty purposes? I sometimes mix it in my homemade conditioner. And believe me, there never was a time when I was so tempted to just start eating my hair. It smells soo chocolaty! Even if you do not want to use it for any other reason than to smell it, every household needs some cocoa butter!

What does it do?

Cocoa butter is fat. Over 50% of it’s mass are just fatty acids. And this is exactly what your skin needs when it’s dry and cracked. That’s the whole mystery. (Also smelling chocolate will lift your mood.)

How do I use it?

As cocoa butter is a solid fat at room temperature, you will need to warm it up a little. Luckily, you don’t need very high temperatures. Actually, more than 35 degrees celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) could do more harm than good to our chocolaty lip treat. So just hold a little piece of it in your closed hand until you feel it becoming softer. Then start applying it to your lips. It will leave a slightly shimmery look and your lips will feel sooo soft!

Do not eat it! I’m serious. I know it smells delicious. It’s really not that tasty though. (Yes, I tried, in the name of science, of course!) And will be way more helpful if you just leave it on your mouth, not in it.

S o those are my four favorite homemade beauty tips for lips. Enjoy trying them out and let me know how they worked for you!
